Karla's Adventure in Egypt
Written by Morgaine

Karla rides a camel in Egypt!

As many of you noticed, Karla was out of the club for a while and had the opportunity to go to Egypt with her cousin! Here's a little of what she has to say about her adventure:

Question: What was your travel itinerary?

Karla: We flew into Cairo and then went to Giza - where I got to visit pyriamids, historial mosques, Coptic churches, and the Egyptian Museum. After that we flew to Aswan for a 3 day Nile Cruise. We saw the Temple of Philae and the Valley of the Kings & Queens and many, many other ruins and sites. We visited Alexandria and were able to visit the Egyptian Library - it's the largest library of the Ancident World.

Question: What was your favorite part of your trip?

Karla: Crusing down the Nile was amazing, watching the shoreline and seeing the different villiages. It's amazing how the Egyptians live, it's very different than what we're used to here in America.

Question: Would you visit Egypt again?

Karla: Ohhh yes.

Self-Defense at Butterfly LIFE
Written by Morgaine
Wednesday, 24 March 2010 23:13

Do you call for a cab every time or do you hail one on the street? Do you go running or walking after dark with your iPod on? Do you leave all the doors on your car unlocked while you're filling the tank at the gas station? We had Rob Brower, Certified REAct instructor, with us at Butterfly LIFE last night for the first of two Guest Lectures on Self-Defense and these were a few of the many safety situations he covered during the evening.

Self-Defense Guest Lecture from March 24, 2010

One thing that stood out during the lecture was awareness and how it can help to keep you out of situations where you'd need to know self-defense techniques. Other areas Rob covered included: On a scale from 1 to 10, how aware are you of your surroundings? Do you go into auto-pilot mode while driving from work and suddenly find yourself in the driveway at home? Is your mind so focused on digging your keys our of your purse while you cross a dark parking lot that you don't notice the other people around you? We also discussed how a very unique keychain can be a helful aid during dangerous situations. If you've never had a chance to talk self-defense or if you need a refresher then this lecture is great opportunity to learn in a safe and comfortable environment.

See the Club Calendar or call the club at 671-0669 for more details.
